Tashkent is a nice city to visit - Uzbekistan has some economic development here, far from the traditions of the East and very touristy cities of the West.
As the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent is a dynamic and cosmopolitan city. The city is a good introduction to the world of the Silk Road along its Uzbek section.
My suggestion
It is generally best to visit Tashkent at the start of your stay in the country. The town is interesting, but somehow less dazzling than Bukhara or Samarkand. It's better if you gradually build up towards more spectacular discoveries, and avoid an anti-climax! Getting around on the city-wide subway system is extremely convenient.

Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan and its largest city, as well as the heart of its economy and its cultural capital - but it's perhaps not the most beautiful of the country's cities.
My suggestion
Visit the Uzbek Museum to discover the culture and heritage of this regrettably little-known nation.

My suggestion
This is the only city on the trip where I was able to use couchsurfing, and I recommend that you seize the opportunity to come into contact with Uzbekistan's younger generation.
