Mount Ausangate is renowned as the highest mountain in the Cusco region. In fact its summit reaches an altitude of 6,350 metres. There is nothing better than taking a hike for a few days to get to know Ausangate and the surrounding area, in the heart of Peru with all its Andean traditions.
The Ausangate trek is known for being quite straightforward. It has to be said that, unlike certain other hikes in the country, this one doesn't have so many sharp drops. Be aware that it would still not be a good idea to begin this adventure without having done an acclimatisation hike in advance.
That's it, are you ready to start eating up the kilometres? So head to Tinqui, 100 km from Cusco. It is here that your trek to discover the delights of the Vilcanota Mountains will begin. 
It was on the second day of our hike that we had the chance to see the village of Upis. Set at an altitude of 6,380 metres, this Andean community is known for its thermal springs and crafts.
 Then head on towards the Palomani pass, the Ausangate Lagoon or Pacchanta.
