A visit to The Sultanate of Oman means experiencing the land of the Arabian Nights: a country that bridges the cultures of Africa and India with a breathtaking mix of mountains, coastal plains and deserts. Located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula on the shores of the Arabian Sea, the Sultanate of Oman occupies a land area almost twice the size of France, yet has only three million inhabitants. A land of myths and legends, it was the birthplace of Sinbad the Sailor. Wadi Tiwi is a little less popular than its neighbor Wadi Shab. However, it is really worth discovering. The landscapes alternate between oases, palm groves, and villages. An interesting feature, is that Wadi Tiwi is inhabited, which is quite rare and more interesting, because you can stop in the villages on the way and meet the locals. That's what happened to me. Shortly after stating my hike, an Omani came up to me and started a conversation. He turned out to be the Sheikh of the wadi. He gave me a tour of the wadi and the palm grove and offered me tea. At then end of this little tour, he even invited me to eat with his family. This totally unexpected encounter remains one of the best memories of my <a href="/oman/">stay in Oman</a>.
