I loved the gentle music of the water falls, the impressive roar which is a true expression of the fantasies of the people in the southern desert regions: water in profusion, with waterfalls that are more than 110 m high! Every summer this little corner of paradise attracts both foreign tourists and Moroccans who like picnicking and drinking a refreshing mint tea right next to the water. If you are a lover of sporting holidays, then don't forget to bring your swimsuit so you can go diving in the chilly water in a festive and musical atmosphere. All under the regard of the Barbary Apes, the only monkey in the world without a tail, who have taken up residence in the waterfall's caves.

The Ouzoud Falls are located in the Middle Atlas mountains, in North-East Morocco. For fans of the great outdoors, the site is fantastic.  What I particularly loved about the Ouzoud Falls was the pervasive sense of calm. By the time we got around to visiting Ouzoud, we'd already been travelling in Morocco for several weeks. After more than a month in the country, I was being to experience a bit of cultural fatigue. We were being pestered by vendors every other minute, we were tired of having to barter to reach a reasonable price, there was the constant noise of car engines and horns...to put it simply, our stop off at Ouzoud did us all a world of good! But do watch out for the monkeys there! There is a group of macaques living on the site who are used to being around humans and who can get quite aggressive when they see the chance to steal someone's lunch!

The site of the olive tree waterfalls, 'ouzoud' being a word of Berber origin meaning 'olive tree', is a veritable paradise in the middle of nowhere, an oasis of verdure after a long road trip through the desert.
