The village is known for its black mica mine that is established nearby and managed by a private company. The mines can also be visited and are the only real tourist attraction of the place. The landscape of the region is dominated by a few hills and the vast grasslands that are typical of the arid climate of the Androy region. The track that leads to Beraketa is studded with a few paved sections, but most of the journey is on a chaotic dirt track that is virtually impassable during the rainy season when the earth turns to mud and makes progress very difficult, even with a 4x4.
