Antsirabe gets its name from "Any sira be", which means "the place with much salt". It rises to an altitude of nearly 5000 feet, and its hills are surrounded by thermal springs rich in mineral salts, perfect for a relaxing time during your trip.

Why not stop for a little swim? Because there are crocodiles living in the Tsiribihina River. A trip down the river in a motor barge or canoe is one of the best ways to discover the Malagasy west.

For example, you can dive the coral reef off the village of Doany on Ankify point. You might meet some sea turtles. And in the mangroves, some dolphins... There are lots of good ways to explore Ankify: pirogue, canoe, bike. Doany's beaches are absolutely magnificent, idyllic even, where the trees have managed to plant themselves in the big rocks. I recommend the west beach where the sun set over Tanikely is simply divine.
