Catch nature unawares as she wakes up...or at least that's what it feels like when you are on the wonderful 2,329 metre high Mount Bromo, on the east of the island of Java. An absolutely spectacular and unforgettable moment.  If you don't appreciate nature then don't bother!

If we have loved the Island of Gods, the pearl of Indonesia, which has had such great tourist success for many years now, we can't deny that it is suffering for its fame. The environment is deteriorating year by year, mainly due to the plague of plastic which is everywhere and which the government does nothing about. Rubbish is not treated and the plastic remains.

Selamat Detang! Banjar is one of my favorite destinations in North Bali. It feels to me as if time is standing still here, and it's a place where you really can experience the traditional, authentic side of Bali. Something to go and see in Banjar is the Buddhist monastery, Brahma Asrama Vihara : a little haven of spirituality where you can try your hand at meditation, transported by the scent of the frangipani trees. The "Air Panas", or hot springs, offer an experience not to be missed: plunge into the sacred, health-giving waters amid lush jungle. The ritual of taking a curative bath is part of everyday life for the Balinese people, who come here in large numbers. Modesty and respectfulness will therefore be much appreciated. Finish off with a watermelon or a traditional Balinese dish; nirvana is not far away.
