Straggling along the only road that connects the port of Gilimanuk (Bali) with Java, Pemuteran is a tiny village at the ends of the earth that I wold recommend to everyone who loves snorkelling and diving. Although this tiny fishing port attracts more and more visitors, its isolated location on the island's point has allowed it to stay very peaceful. Having heard people speaking about these protected sea beds for a long time, I decided to go there as part of a project to promote sustainable tourism. And I discovered an exciting programme of coral restoration and a turtle nursery. As I prefer the wildest possible countryside, I loved diving on the protected marine reserve of the Island of <a href="/indonesia/holidays/places/349-menjangan/">Pulau Menjangan</a>, only a few kilometres from the coast of Pemuteran. Without doubt one of the most beautiful diving spots on Bali, Menjangan is a superb aquarium for anyone who wants to use their <a href="/indonesia/">trip to Indonesia</a> to get their PADI diving certificate. And finally, as well as the coast, I was also fascinated by the beauty of the green valleys of the landscape around the village's main beach. Making the most of its arid climate, little by little Pemuteran has become the cradle of Balinese viticulture, and you can taste, among others, a very good local rosé. So, much of the ground around here is occupied by vines, whose sun yellowed leaves make for a wonderfully coloured landscape.
