If we have loved the Island of Gods, the pearl of Indonesia, which has had such great tourist success for many years now, we can't deny that it is suffering for its fame. The environment is deteriorating year by year, mainly due to the plague of plastic which is everywhere and which the government does nothing about. Rubbish is not treated and the plastic remains.

After having explored Bali's south coast, I really appreciated the calm of Amed, a much more restful place , perfect for holiday makers who wish to relax or just take a break for a few days to recharge their batteries. The scenery is splendid and I appreciated the fact of not running into a throng of tourists. If you like diving, Amed is the ideal place to do so : the water is transparent, the sand white and the depths magnificent, I was able to explore several wrecks of boats washed up near enough to the coast to be easily accessible with flippers, a mask and a snorkel. Quite early in the morning, from the beach, I watched the fishermen's departure. It is even possible to go aboard their boats and fish with them for the day or await their return in the evening and buy fresh fish from them.

The small village of Amed is out-of-the-way on the east coast of Bali, here people make a living from fishing and from what little they can draw from tourism. Like most of the island's beaches, those around Amed are made of black sand of volcanic origin. The road leading to Amed from Ubud or Denpasar offers spectacular scenery of terraced rice paddies and mountains and is worth the trip alone. The main activities here are relaxation and diving. Amed is very renowned for the richness of its seabed where you find coral and fish in profusion. One of my favourite places is without doubt the wreck of a Japanese ship grounded about thirty feet deep near Banyuning village. A destination for relaxation holiday lovers!

Amed is a small fishing village in east Bali. By extension, the name refers to a part of the east coast and the villages to be found there.

Amed is Bali's cool attitude town with reggae for background music in every guesthouse and bar. You meet locals who throw a "how's life my wife" or "here we go!" your way. With its beaches of black sand, Amed is the perfect place for a snorkelling or scuba diving session, that you can discover during a <a href="/indonesia/"> trip to Bali </a>. About twenty kilometers from Amed, you can also enjoy Bali's most famous wreck: the Liberty, which hides a multitude of fish. I also enjoyed going for a moped ride along the coast and inland. Here you see breathtaking rice paddies and scenery.

A stop known to divers, Amed is a small pleasant town in which to spend a few days and relax to the sound of the guitar.
