Catch nature unawares as she wakes up...or at least that's what it feels like when you are on the wonderful 2,329 metre high Mount Bromo, on the east of the island of Java. An absolutely spectacular and unforgettable moment.  If you don't appreciate nature then don't bother!

If we have loved the Island of Gods, the pearl of Indonesia, which has had such great tourist success for many years now, we can't deny that it is suffering for its fame. Sidemen is a true Eden on an island which is already paradisiacal, that is to say it's worth giving it a glance! The valley is made up of rice fields sculpted into flats on the slopes and hilly areas, the region is dominated by a striking green which is particularly beautiful and relaxing. In the middle of this exuberant nature, some streams cross the countryside, from afar, we can see Mount Agung, which overlooks the valley and completes the post card scenery. Following the period in which you visit Sidemen, the flats are covered with rice which is still green, being bare if the harvests have already taken place. In this case, the flooded rice fields form a vast collection of mirrors in which the scenery is reflected; quite simply magical. Advice to those who like it go off the beaten track!

Sidemen is a haven of peace after the chaos of Ubud. Few tourists, a complete change of scenery, wonderful walks and a morning market...I loved this town for its calm and its scenery. Sidemen is surrounded by rice fields that you can easily explore by foot. I walked along the irrigation canals in the middle of the rice fields - it was magical! Some women were taking their lunch break and invited me to join them. We communicated by miming; a truly unforgettable experience! If you like sporty outings and enjoy a challenge, there's a temple up the mountain. It's a long walk that takes several hours to get to the summit. As for me, the heat and my useless map meant I went another way - by hitchhiking! It was excellent!

A town nestled amongst rice fields, in the countryside and off the beaten track, Sideman is, in my opinion, a must see on the island of Bali.
