In parallel to the route from Kargil to Leh, there is another road called the "Sham". It connects small villages such as Likir (famous for its Gompa), Yangthang and Timishgan.
The latter could be a little detour from the main route, a day trip (they are easy to rich from Leh) or better, a short trek for ramblers who do not wish to climb to a high altitude.
Curiously, Yangthang village reminds me very much of Turtuk, although further north, on the border with Pakistan Probably because of the barley fields where I could see women working in their colourful outfits. I especially appreciated the traditional life of the Ladakh families here, with whom we can stay. Some advice for those who do not have much time but would like to travel around the area of Leh without undertaking long journeys.
