Renovated in a romantic style at the beginning of the 19th century, Trsat castle at Rijeka, still has the outwardly austere and simple appearance of its original 13th construction, which can deceive visitors. But its situation, on top of a promontory and the view it has over Kvarner Bay, give it a very special place among the architectural riches of Croatia.

Pula has some wonderful architectural heritage to offer, with its exceptionally well-preserved amphitheatre a notable example of this. Visiting the city and immersing yourself in this historical past is a very enjoyable experience.

Croatia also has eight national parks, as well as occasional encounters with unblemished fauna and flora. The destination is perfect for those who want to alternate between idle relaxation and sport, for example by spending time between tranquil sailing and hiking… And finally, this beautiful country is appreciated for its sublime towns, where the architecture will delight you. The capital, Zagreb, for example, is a subtle balance between historical wealth and modern town living…

Komiža is definitely somewhere I would include in my top 5 favourite destinations in Croatia. When you arrive at the little port town of Vis, on the island of the same name, you still have a steep mountain pass to traverse followed by a drive along a breathtaking road that seems almost to plunge straight down to the sea just before you finally arrive at the lively, animated and adorable little old town of Komiža. The reason I was so taken with this town is probably because it still has the kind of traditionally authentic character that few coastal destinations in Croatia have managed to retain. In the evenings, when it's the summer holiday season, the little harbour becomes a lively, animated place, with people sat out on the terraces of its numerous restaurants enjoying seafood dishes accompanied by local wines, which are amongst the best in the country here. There are lots of isolated beaches where you can go bathing during the day in and around Komiža, as well as some incredible diving spots. There are also a number of places where you can hire bicycles in the town, despite the fact that the island's terrain is steeply hilly.
