Let's begin with a little history: around 220 B.C.E. the Chinese were audacious enough to create an elaborate defensive system. Originally it was the idea of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang who wanted to counter the invasions from the north. An incredible idea but nonetheless real, the Emperor tried to join together existing sections of fortifications and the works got longer and longer, continuing until the 17th century.
