Yunnan is essentially a land of contrasts. A remote region, it offers a mixture of both tropical and icy environments – with its lush forests and imposing snow-capped summits – and linguistic and demographic diversity. Though we're still a long way from true ecotourism management here, nature has nevertheless dealt Yunnan a hand that can quite definitely be made into a formidable asset.
