The plateau where Sen Monorom is located is about 3000 feet above sea level, making it a cool region for Cambodia. The climate plays a particularly important role and you'll need to consider it in your travel plans. The rainy season makes access to the town complicated because of landslides. As for winter, don't forget your fleece, because it gets cold at night!

Chi Phat was one of the places I really enjoyed visiting the most on my trip to Cambodia. Though I only spent two days there myself, I recommend staying at least five or six days to really get the most out of visiting this village. Chi Phat is a CBET (Community Based Eco-tourism) centre: in other words, it's a Khmer village specially adapted to accommodate responsible tourism.  A result of this is that there are various guest houses or other forms of accommodation where you share with the owner, and there are also some unusual activities to do, such as trekking, cycle trips and kayaking, and even some highly unusual ones – which I think are really worthwhile – such as volunteering to help families, going on hunting patrols at night, gardening, cleaning up, etc.   A visit to Chi Phat offers a genuine experience of life with the local people, making it ideal for those who like to experience something different. I really did feel as if I was discovering Cambodia from the inside during my time here.
